President Donald Trump is facing criticism online after making an unexpected joke during a White House Medal of Honor ceremony honoring three American war heroes.
While presenting the nation’s highest military award, Trump appeared to struggle fastening the medal around retired Army Major Nicholas Dockery’s neck. After several attempts, he tied the ribbon into a knot and joked, “Now that’s not coming off now.”
The ceremony also drew attention after Trump made an off-script remark, saying he had wanted to give the Medal of Honor to himself but had been told he could not.
Supporters viewed the comments as lighthearted humor, while critics called them inappropriate during a ceremony meant to recognize extraordinary military sacrifice.
The event honored retired Marine Major James Capers Jr., retired Army Major Nicholas Dockery, and the late Marine Colonel John W. Ripley for acts of heroism in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
What do you think? Harmless joke or wrong place, wrong time?
